Temperment
These lively and active Terriers are quite independent, just as they were bred to be. They can also be quite the watchdog with their alarming bark, and a great hole digger for all you gardeners. Westies are good with families with older children, but not always a good idea for younger kids. Being a Terrier, they tolerate little and have such a strong prey drive. Having said that, other animals in the household may not be wise either, however, they usually do well with other dogs if properly socialized and introduced. A fenced in yard and a leash are a must.

Health Concerns
The main health concern for Westies are various skin problems, such as atopic dermatitis. Some Westies are known to have allergies.

Comments: Oscar is a 1 1/2 year old Westie. Prior to buying him we researched the Westie breed a lot and found that Oscar is everything they write about! We call him our Diva. Very independant yet demanding and STUBBORN! We are currently seeking assistance in correcting some behavior issues with marking around our house due to other pets. All issues aside ....what a great friend!! |
