Temperment
Independent, lively, courageous, & clever. They require assertive owners, early training, and established boundaries as they may attempt to rule the family. Will do well with children & other pets if raised with them. They may not tolerate teasing by children and they may chase small animals. Since they are hunters, they need a secure fence so they do not run away with every scent they catch.

Health Concerns
Disk disease, bloat, epilepsy, progressive retinal atrophy, hypothyroidism. Due to their long backs & shot legs, do not let them jump off high furniture as it can hurt their spine or legs if they land wrong. Many like to lie around and relax, so give them daily exercise to prevent obesity.

Common Behavior Problems
Barking, Digging
