| Temperment |
| Fearless, courageous, independent, intelligent, and comical. These are big dogs in a little body. PRT's have a very high prey drive and can be pretty fiesty. As a family pet, they are very playful and affectionate. Due to their high spirited nature, they are not recommended in households with very young children or small pets. Many tend to be dog aggressive as well as protective of their family against strangers. Some will take on a very large dog if given the opportunity--they stand their ground regardless of the size of their opponent. It's very important to socialize this breed early to children, strangers, dogs, and all other animals. PRT's have a lot of energy, so a fenced in yard with at least 1 long walk a day is a must. If they do not have a proper outlet for their energy, they may take it out with barking or digging. These terriers are very intelligent and they love to perform tricks for an audience. If given proper physical and mental stimulation, and if socialized early, this breed can be a great pet. |
